Dance
All the archetypes of young lovers from around the world come together in Shakespeare’s Romeo, just as all dances merge in The Romeo. “I seek to create a dance that brings together the worlds and mythologies of all communities”, revealed Trajal Harell as he left Avignon, which featured his show in the courtyard of the Palais des Papes. “I’m aiming for a dance that isn’t linked to any one nation and that has travelled far enough for it to be part of all our cultures”. A choreographic fiction with a universal playlist, The Romeo features seventeen dancers, brings together voguing and the Judson School, genres and generations, and marks the emergence of a new community. It’s freedom. It’s intuitive.
